Indoor air quality
Every air problem has its own fix.
We start with an indoor air quality assessment of your home, then recommend solutions for what we find.
What's in the air, and what handles it
| Problem | What it is | What we use |
|---|---|---|
| Particulates | Dust, smoke, pollen | Media filter |
| Bio-aerosols | Mold, bacteria, viruses | UV light |
| Volatile organic compounds | Chemical and odor-causing gases | Electronic air cleaner or HEPA air purifier |
| Humidity | Too much or too little | Humidifier or dehumidifier |
| Overall air quality | Stale air in a tightly sealed home | Heat recovery ventilator |
Aprilaire humidifier
Automatic. It reads outdoor temperature and indoor humidity and adjusts itself, so there's nothing to keep tweaking.

Second Wind UV light
Installed in the return air drop, so it treats air as it circulates through the ducts.
Aprilaire 5000 electronic air cleaner
Whole-house air cleaning. The media only needs changing once a year.
Whole-home dehumidifier
Treats the entire home and drains itself, so there's no bucket to empty.
Heat recovery ventilator
Exchanges indoor air with outdoor air up to 6 times a day, and is up to 80% efficient.
The standard 1-inch filter that comes with a furnace is there to protect the furnace, not the air you breathe.
A good 6-inch media filter catches most particles of 1 micron and up. Smaller things need a different approach.
